Plan Flight for Pilots

Have you noticed a bulky bag that hooks on to a pilot's suitcase? Plan Flight was built to replace that bag which essentially contains the aircraft manuals and route documentations. With the Plan Flight app on iPad, pilots can estimate the fuel for their upcoming flights on the go.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  1. I was part of the team that set out to build a first-of-a-kind industry solution to solve such a complex problem. As a UX/IA lead, I co-led design workshops where we closely worked with industry Subject Matter Experts to validate our research using user interviews, process flows and building out our goal for the product.

  2. I spent many hours researching and understanding the complex data that is used by pilots to calculate the discretionary fuel amount needed for a flight. I built the wireframes, UI prototype, and created application flow docs to support our remote development team.

  3. I implemented a design review strategy for this app as our development team was global; the strategy involved design work to be 2 weeks ahead of the development sprint which allowed for buffer to receive feedback from our stakeholders and engineering team. This worked well for our team as it allowed our developers to better plan their sprints.

The app was presented in Mobile World Congress - check out here

Before each takeoff, pilots manage a critical list of items, to ensure comfort, safety, and the financial health of their airline. One responsibility is deciding how much fuel to load. In fact, fuel represents 30%-40% of operating expenses. Enter Plan Flight, a mobile app made exclusively for iOS that puts real-time analytics into the aviator's hands-transforming guesswork into fact-based decision making.
